    Application description:

    Broach lift and rotate system is used for broach rebuild – disassembly and assembly

     

     

     

     

    This post lifting system (PLS) application is unique. For this application we chose to utilize a dual ACME screw post system which provided the following benefits:

     

    1. High capacity 6000 pounds (2722 kg)
    2. Lift travel of 52 inches (1320 mm)
    3. Smooth precision controls for up and down
    4. Double nut ACME screw for safety with limit switches to lock out the movement

    When our customer approached us and described the application we knew we had the right solution with our Post Lift, and we designed the Broach Lift and Rotate System. What was interesting was the fact that a number of other companies and a local University studied the application and was not able to resolve the problem.

    The application called for a lift that would allow the operator to be able to disassemble Broach Liftand assemble broaches.

    These broaches are used to cut the outside diameter of gear and can weigh up to 3400 pounds (1542 kg) and be 36” tall. The operator needs to be able to rotate and lock each broach in position while raising and lowering it. Each layer of the broach is unbolted then machined to have a new cutting edge. The layers are then re-assembled. It is important the operator can be up close to the work piece with plenty of room for toes to allow for up close work. All the controls are at the finger tips of the operator to be able to raise and lower the lift in a safe manner and rotate and lock the system. Broach Lift and Rotate System worked out to be the best solution for this application.
